What is the coveted Mr. America Title?

In 1939, the All Natural Mr. America Contest was created to select “America’s Best Built Man” and was focused on honoring the ancient Greek virtues of health, muscularity, symmetry, and character in order to showcase some of the finest specimens of American masculinity. Over time, the Mr. America Contest grew to become one of the most prestigious and recognizable names in bodybuilding and strength.

In 2015, the Mr. America Competition began its efforts to revive the Natural Classic Era Bodybuilding™ – judged by old school standards including natural symmetry, proportion and classic posing protocol – coupled with the traditional drug testing component.

Today’s modern Mr. America title is awarded to the overall winner of bodybuilding and continues to represent “America’s Best Built Man” inside and out – a well-rounded individual with symmetry, muscle, mindset, and moxie. He carries the coveted title for one year and serves as a representative of the Mr. America ideal and a role model for young and old alike to empower athletes everywhere to achieve their dreams. He is the perfect picture of Strength, Classic Aesthetic, Health, Wellness and Motivation to represent the best in American Fitness.

In 2016, we announced the Mr. America All American Sports Festival with additional competitions for men and women including Classic Era Bodybuilding, Physique, Athletic Competition, All-Around Competition (Bodybuilding/Physique, Athletic, and Interview,) 5k color run, Bench Press, and Kids Push Ups. This expanded venue opens up opportunities for individuals of all ages to compete in the best of American Fitness.

With its mission of Lifting The Human Spirit® and offering over $50,000 in cash and prizes, the Mr. America All★American Sports Festival will boast the coveted Mr. America Title along with multiple athletic competitions and a health, wellness and fitness Expo which all combine to make this event one of epic proportions. Mr. America awards will be given for each class and competition category.  Mr. America Medals will be awarded to overall winners.

Mr. America is more than a title; it’s a movement of empowering athlete’s everywhere to achieve their dreams through hard work, dedication, motivation and natural athletic fitness.

History

The oldest and most prestigious physique title on earth was held in Rochester, NY, in 2015 only 200 miles from where the first Mr. America contest began in Amsterdam, NY. June 10, 1939, it is considered to be the first Mr. America Contest with the winner being named “America’s Best Built Man”. From the 1940’s, men have pursued the coveted Mr. America title as a stepping stone to become entrepreneurs through physical culture. In the later part of the 20th century, the AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) dropped the old school judging criteria of athleticism, character, health & beauty that made the contest unique. Instead it focused on muscle size to keep up with the trajectory of popular new bodybuilding shows that would eventually go too far. Health, character and function were sadly no longer the primary part of the conversation…until the 2015 Mr. America.

In 2015, MRA Promotions, LLC brought the legendary physique competition back with old school values, short films, an athletic competition, interviews and drug testing. The Introduction of the new 2015 Classic Era Physique™ and Classic Era Bodybuilding™ categories is a game changer in the fitness industry.

In addition, the new “AllAround” champions were crowned in all categories after bravely competing in the physique, athletic and interview components combined. We hope you join us in the dawning of a new era of positivity for Mr. America.

Ever since the 2015 event, Mr. America will always pay homage to the roots of health, motivation and positive influence and celebrates early champions like Steve Reeves, Bill Pearl, Red Lerille, Jim Morris and Frank Zane. Symmetry, “deep V”, small waist and “vacuum” are once again held in the highest regard with our judges.
Mr. America now lives The Chosen Life™, as a credit to the title he or she bears. Humble. Proud. Purposeful.
